Oyster Bay High School proudly celebrates junior Chrysta Thomas, who earned First Place in the Biomedical and Health Sciences category at the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF)—one of the most competitive science research competitions in New York State.

Her project explored a molecular mechanism behind breast cancer cell growth, identifying potential pathways for more targeted treatments. Chrysta is now advancing to the international level, representing New York among the world’s top student researchers.

Science Research Program (Grades 7–12)

Students gather in an Innovation Lab, viewing project displays.

The Oyster Bay Science Research Program is a multi-year, authentic research experience that begins in Grade 7 and continues through Grade 12.

Students don’t just learn about science—they actively engage in original research, developing skills that prepare them for college and careers in STEM fields.

Students have opportunities to:

  • Work with faculty and external mentors
  • Conduct real-world scientific investigations
  • Present at local, regional, and state competitions
  • Build college-ready research portfolios

From middle school exploration to award-winning research, our program develops:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Confidence in public speaking and presentation
  • Independence and perseverance
  • A passion for discovery and innovation

By the time students graduate, they are not only prepared for advanced study—they have already contributed to the scientific community.
